March 2018 Pastor’s Corner
The Lent Season has begun. Daily Lent Devotions and Scriptures for the week were presented the First Sunday of Lent, and will be continuing each week. My questions: Have you selected a “fasting” or a “giving up item” for the Lent Season? Or instead have you committed to reading a certain book, or doing a charity project? Importantly, have you also set aside a specified time of each day for your devotions, communicating with our God? In other words, have you the self-discipline of a disciple of Christ? This is the time!
Victoria’s people are looking forward to an eventful March. In fact, we have been quite busy. As I write this we are transitioning to Sunday services in Gordon Hall while the sanctuary is being refreshed with new carpeting and tile (and asbestos abatement) through our insurance coverage. Praise God! The Holy Week will find His House sparkling fresh. (And don’t forget to bring flowers on Easter for placing on the Cross.)
Patti Yeaman has been ordained now as an official Deacon. (She is a true kitchen-angel.) And we welcome new member Peggi Taken. On March 17th Peggi is sponsoring a charity drive for “KidSave.” (We’ll report on this next month.) These are moments when we feel close to Jesus, when we partake of traditions dating back to the early Christians, and following His Way.
Almighty God, Father everlasting, be near to us in this Lenten Season of meditation and communion. May our hearts be open to every sacred moment. May the Holy Spirit descend upon us, filing us with “the peace that passeth all understanding.” In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
